In 2000, the Lipari Islands, located just above Sicily at the southern edge of the Tyrrhenian Sea, were appointed a UNESCO World Heritage site - which is an expression of the sophisticated and exceptional beauty of the area.

Corsica and Sardinia are located to the northwest, Elba to the north, and towards the east is Italy's boot.
