The wind is seldom particularly strong during the season, the sea is generally calm, there are almost no tides or currents, the coast is safe, there are plenty of places to take shelter - and sailors mostly sail with landfall.
If you have a week available, you can sail along the Var coast and the archipelago of Les Îles d'Or. Less than 15 nautical miles away, the islands Le Levant, Port Cros and Porquerolles, and anchor bays of Cabasson, Léoube are located in a position, which is sheltered by Cap Bénat and the Bay of Cavalaire and Cap Lardier. Within 30 nautical miles, you will find Saint-Tropez, Saint-Raphaël and Agay. Cannes and the Iles de Lérins are only 10 nautical miles further to the east. To the west are Casis and Calanque de Port-Miou, Morgiou and Sormiou less than 50 nautical miles away.
If you have two weeks or more available, you can make for Corsica, Sardinia or the Balearic Islands. From Bormes, the nearest port in Corsica is Calvi (110 nm). Bonifacio is reached about 90 nautical miles from Calvi. Here you will find a myriad of anchor bays along the breathtaking red rocks of the west coast. To the southwest, 220 nautical miles away, you will find Menorca and the Balearic Islands. They can be reached by direct crossing or with stops along the French Côte Vermeille or the Spanish Costa Brava.
